Stretton Lakes Sustainability

Energy efficiency
Where possible, we encourage guests to be as energy efficient as possible so we can all help reduce climate change.

Solar

We have 200 solar panels on site. The generated electricity is then used to feed electric to our log cabins.

The solar panels now generate up to 46,000 KW per year.

Our amenities blocks have motions sensors and will come on when customers visit them and go off after 10 minutes if there is no movement.

Waste
Bins are provided either end of the touring Park, please split your waste into general waste and recycling.

Water
Please use water responsibly.

During times of drought, we encourage guests to place their grey waste on our hedgerows to help water our plants and trees.

Walking
We encourage our guests to make the most of our beautiful surroundings. From our park, you can walk through Stretton Wood and George Henry Wood. Please ask at Reception for walking routes, a map to show you the routes is within the Touring Park Reception area.

Reception shop

Our Reception shop is stocked with locally sourced, cakes, biscuits and savoury snacks as well as other treats.

Local

We encourage our guests to visit our local award winning pubs, The Jackson Stops in Stretton Village and The Olive Branch in Clipsham Village, both can be cycled or walked to.

Ecology

Many Areas within Stretton Lakes and our Touring Park have been planted with wildflower mixes and are kept purposely uncut in order to promote habitats for insects and pollinators.

Where possible, we plant native saplings and trees in the park to compliment the screening and privacy.

We have planted in excess of a thousand trees, around the site and created a small woodland area, we have created 8 fishing lakes over the years which are naturally planted and are home to ducks and geese.

There are lots of fallow deer that are regularly seen by our guests.  Our lodges each have areas planted with shrubs and trees, which encourages wildlife to the lodges.  The lodges back onto Stretton Wood, giving the fallow deer, pheasants, rabbits and hares freedom to run around the lodges. Excellent for bird watching.

Nature

Stretton Lakes is surrounded by natural hedges and trees established over many years, which provide a wonderful habitat for the native flora and fauna and we have areas of more ornamental planting and hedging but try to use species to compliment the area

Stretton Lakes grows 2 hectares of wild bird seed every winter, to support the birds. Hedges are trimmed once every two years this allows the provision of winter food, berries and uninterrupted nesting for birds.

We feed 1 tonne (1000kg) cereals of small seed, around the woodlands to the wild birds between 1st December to 31st March.

Sustainability

At Stretton Lakes Touring Park we are committed to being as sustainable as we can and minimising our impact on the wonderful area in which we are fortunate to live and work. We consider Stretton Lakes to be a very special place ideally located between Stamford and Oakham and surrounded by open farmland, with great views overlooking the Rutland countryside.

Examples of what we are doing to help…

Touring Park Reception building

The shower facilities all have low energy LED lighting (with motion sensors in the toilet/shower block). The washroom areas also have large windows to give plenty of natural light and minimise the lighting required during the daytime.

Our shower block is built the latest building regulation insulation standards.

We have chosen locally produced stone from Clipsham village for our reception building. Sourced less than 1 mile away and quarried less than 1 mile away.

Lighting, to ensure that we were doing all we can to preserve and enhance the amazing night sky splendour for our guests, there are no lights around our lakes near the lodges.

Whenever possible we like to use local tradesmen and suppliers as we can.
